On June 3, 2019 , it registered two new explosions that led the Mexican government to declare a type yellow alert.

It is the second highest volcano in Mexico, with a maximum altitude of 5,500 meters above sea level, only after Citlaltépetl , at 5,747 m.

Mexico is also home to the world’s smallest volcano, measuring just 43 feet (13 meters) tall.
